Caring Committee

In the cycle of life, sometimes we find ourselves in situations where we need the help and support of other people.  The Caring Committee seeks to foster an awareness of those in our congregation who need attention.  Volunteers coordinate support and listen to concerns of church members who find themselves in need.  Some of the most common kinds of support needed include

  • A telephone check-in for people living alone
  • Organizing holiday meals for those who are not part of a larger family
  • Organizing a list of caregivers who can manage a household in an emergency (babysit, stay with an elderly person, help children get home from school, etc.)
  • Encouraging friends and neighbors to provide meals in times of crisis.
  • Sending a card expressing support

The mission of the Caring Program is to give aid to church members in time of need. We provide services such as preparing receptions after memorial services, arranging rides for those unable to drive, visiting shut-ins, and taking meals to ill or convalescing members. We also maintain lists of and coordinate the efforts of other caring church members who have offered to help. The Caring Committee meets as needed during the year; meetings are open to all members.

Hospitality

The community of UCE practices "radical hospitality." Our church is a community of people coming together from many different walks of life, and we care intentionally for our people from the moment they come through the door as a visitor through the time they can no longer get to church.

Programs that nurture our people one by one are: visitor hospitality, member involvement, welcoming congregation, caring program, and pastoral care associates.
